Implementing the Long Term Plan – what next?

Integrated Care Systems are central to the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan. Growing out of the current network of STPs, ICSs will cover the whole of England by April 2021 and will bring together local organisations to redesign care, improve population health, and foster shared leadership and action.

At this year’s NHS Confed Conference there was extensive discussion and debate of the steps required to become a successful Integrated Care System.

NHS England has set out the high-level timeline for STP and ICS system leads and regional teams. Leaders will need to to agree System Plans by Autumn 2019, prepare for the publication of the National Implementation Plan in Winter 2019 and undertake operational planning by Spring 2021.
