Stefano Palazzo is passionate about quality improvement and service transformation in the public sector. He has experience in national policy development, service transformation and improvement methodologies. He has extensive frontline healthcare experience, having worked as a doctor for five years and national-level system experience, having been a Clinical Fellow to the Medical Director of NHS Improvement.

Stefano has acquired a breadth of experience at 2020 Delivery including strategy development and implementation, operational improvement and capability building.  His projects have included working with a leading teaching hospital to deliver and implement change in radiology and specialist surgical services, collaborating closely with clinicians and other front-line staff to ensure plans are sustainable and effective. He also led a wide-ranging strategy review for a leading pharmacy chain, supporting the Chief Executive and senior leadership team to develop a 3-5 year vision and strategy.

As a practising doctor, Stefano led trust-level audits and quality improvement projects, applying various quality improvement methodologies.  These varied from hospital-wide projects in large District General Hospitals, to ward-specific improvements in tertiary specialist centres.  He acquired broad experience in medical education and research having created a number of local education programmes for junior clinicians, and worked as a tutor at Oxford University.  His research interests include respiratory and intensive care medicine, and he has published work in various international journals and presented his research at international conferences.

Stefano holds a First Class MA in Medical Sciences and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Oxford University. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2014.
